In any facet of your life – from building friendships into lasting relationships, advancing a job into a career path, being a better team member, or navigating the tricky terrain between co-worker to leader, the more you know yourself, that is, the more self-aware you are, the more success you will have. To this end, there are a number of assessments that can help you gain new perspectives about yourself and your colleagues. Whether you are doing it to further goals for yourself, or for your organization, this is the starting point to better outcomes all around.

Here are a few assessment options available to you as well as their importance:

Hogan Personality Assessment

What it measures:

  • Personality, values
  • Counterproductive behaviors (derailers)

Individuals can gain a deeper self-awareness by understanding their personality and values.  Allows for coaching discussions around counterproductive behaviors and ways to improve.  In a team context, Hogan can be used to identify similarities and differences across team members and help identify skills and perspectives that may be under- or over-represented.

Leadership Competency Assessment

Team Effectiveness Assessment

What it measures:

  • Identifies specific areas of team strength and opportunity (e.g. trust, team cohesion, feedback etc.)

This tool allows for a deeper understanding of exactly what effectiveness looks like, and lets leaders see where team members perceive areas of opportunity. From this, actions and strategies can be developed to support increased team performance.

Culture Assessment

  • Profiles an organization’s culture on several dimensions
  • Provides a framework for describing a culture using neutral language (not “good” or “bad”) and offers a foundation for the development of culture strategies

  1. their own trustworthiness and
  2. the level of trust on their teams

Importance and application:

Individual and team effectiveness is largely built on a foundation of trust. This activity allows individuals to gain an awareness of how they may be inhibiting their own ability to build trust. It also allows for group discussions around ways to enhance the level of trust on a team.
